This educational program will assist administrators and members of the Interdisciplinary Team in learning the importance of Accurate MDS 3.0 Coding, and its impact on a Facility’s Survival: Survey Outcomes, Clinical Reimbursement, Five Star Rating and Quality Measures
At the end of the program learner will:
- Identify the Manual that provides specific guidance on how to code the MDS 3.0 Items
- Enumerate the components of the RAI (Resident Assessment Instrument) Process in Long-Term Care
- List two (2) Reasons why Accurate Coding of the MDS 3.0 is important to ensure a Skilled Nursing Facility’s Survival
- Enumerate three (3) MDS 3.0 Sections or Items that will affect Clinical Reimbursement under PDPM
- Discuss how the MDS 3.0 affects the facility’s Five Star Rating Score

settings. Her varied experiences (as a Staff Nurse, Nurse Manager, QAC, MDS Coordinator, ADON,
DON, Pharmacy Liaison, Corporate Director of Clinical Services, Clinical Reimbursement Specialist
and Business Office Liaison) enable her to understand the many operational challenges faced by providers. She has extensive expertise in Clinical Reimbursement, Claims and Appeals, MDS 3.0,
Regulatory Compliance, Survey Process, IDR/IIDR & DAB Hearings, Budget & Resource Utilization,
Infection Control , Risk Management and establishment of systems to promote Quality of Care and
Positive Clinical & Financial Outcomes.
Due to her exceptional commitment to continually achieve professional and personal excellence,
Nelia was named a VIP member of the “Worldwide Who’s Who” in 2014. In 2018, she was the
recipient of a special award given by NJADONA to a Nurse Leader who strives to consistently
“Make a Difference” in the Health Care Industry. In 2020, she received the American College of
Health Care Administrators' "National Educator of the Year" Award for her innovative approach
and outstanding contribution to education in Post-Acute and Aging Services.
Aside from conducting seminars, trainings & webinars for The CHARTS Group, Nelia has also given presentations for HCANJ, American College of Health Care Administrators, Greater NYHCFA,
NJADONA, Society of Licensed Nursing Home Administrators, NJHIMA, PNA, DHCC, UPNAII, and other professional Health Care Associations in the country.
